Japanese for Gaming How Much Do You Know

OK blow down the cartridge and get ready to surprise yourself.

Remember the first Japanese game you played, when you switched on the famicom (NES) and Super famicom(SNES). What was your feeling when you were looking at the screen? Total mumbo-jumbo when you were looking at the Japanese words, right? However, you might be familiar with the western version of the game, if the screen layout is similar, then you’d know where the “start” button or quit button was.

  • Level = レーベル(Rēberu)
  • Easy = 簡単・かんたん(Kantan)
  • Hard = 難しい・むずかしい(Muzukashī)

  • Load = ロード(Rōdo)
  • Mission = ミッション(Misshon)
  • Yay, I won! or Yay, I did it! = やった! (Yatta)!
  • Fight = 戦う・たたかう(Tatakau)
  • Attack = 攻撃・こうげき(Kōgeki)
  • Item = アイテム(Aitemu)

 

After the game ends:

  • Save = セーブ(Sēbu) to your Memory card = メモリーカード(Memorīkādo),
  • Quit = 終了・しゅうりょう(Shūryō)
  • Continue = 続き・つづき(Tsuduki)
  • Retry = リトライ(Ritorai)
